The Turtleback Loop in the South Mountain Reservation

The hike for November is going to be the Turtle Back Loop in the South Mountain Reservation. The 3.5 mile trail should take approximately 2 hours to complete, and has a total elevation gain of 380 feet. Its name, the Turtle Back Loop, is due to a large rock feature that we will stand on that resembles the shape of a tortoise. The Turtle Back Zoo is also named after this rock, and allegedly the Lenape Indians called this formation "Turtle Back Rock".

Don't forget to bring your Six Essentials: First-Aid Kit, Water Bottle, Flashlight, Trail Food/Snacks, Sun Protection, and a Whistle! Before the hike we will also discuss the Scout Outdoor Code, Leave No Trace, and proper outdoor behavior.
